Tennis - Fourth Intermediate Report

I’m not happy with my tennis project, since a few months ago I don’t feel any improvement in my tennis skills, maybe having only 1 hour per month it’s not enough to increase my skills.

I don’t feel motivated to play tennis and I’m not achieving my objectives anymore.

I have already spent 52 hours on this activity.

Swimming - Second Intermediate Report

I have been practicing swimming for about 4 months and I have already noticed major changes in my physical health and in my swimming technique. I’ve learn how to swim butterfly stroke (I don’t have any trouble on controlling my respiration), however I cannot swim it more than 25 meters in a row.

Also I found out that my favourite swimming style is crawl.

In total I have already spend 25 hours on this activity.

CASA - Fourth Intermediate Report

In the past month, especially in the first weeks I realized that the food stock of CASA increased a lot due to Christmas, which is when people remember to donate food to organizations that help homeless people.

I find this good because we are able to provide more food to the homeless, however during most of the year we suffer from lack of food and many times we are forced to cook always the same food (rice with sausages).

I want to warn people how bad is the state of our stock throughout the year and motivate people to be more active on donating food, so we can provide enough food and variety to homeless people every Sunday.

I have already spend 60 hours in this activity.

Report - Maintenance of the labels of the school's trees

Two years ago, my group started this project by identifying the trees and plants of the school's garden, by putting a plate of wood in each one with the scientific classification, the common name and the origin. As expected, some plates disappeared and others were deteriorated by the rain. Last year during the first weeks of July we replace some of them with new ones. This activity started on the preliminary year (PY) and we committed to make the maintenance of the plates that identify the plants of the school garden.

Our aims were identifying all school plants and trees by placing a small plate with information from them and also give students information about the name of the school plants and trees, thus promoting the teaching of biology and botany.

What motivated me on participating in this project was the fact that I would be able to contribute to the increase of knowledge and interest of the school students about a subject which is one of my favourites.

My personal goals with this activity were to initiate and plan a CAS activity and also to demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively. I was able to achieve both goals.

I had some difficulties throughout the activity, such as, when making the small plates, because some of the staples didn’t pierced the plates and when plasticizing the paper with the information.

This activity is considered creativity, because it involves making the plates and place them and to make some research for information about the plants. In total I spent 10 hours on this activity.

Concluding I think this project increased my knowledge about biology, and I increased also my communication and skills when working with others.

Report - Creating and developing games at an informatics company

On the summer of 2015 between the days of 17/08/2015 to 21/08/2016 I attended to a professional training course at a firm called Rumos where I created and developed video games. In this project I’ve learned the basis for the creation of a game and I even made my own game.

I participated in this project, because I always wondered how were games made, also I love to play video games, so I took the opportunity and before going to this project I talked with some friends and I told them to come so it would be more fun.

My personal goals were learn how to make games, create my own game and try to understand if I would like to follow a career in this type of business.

This activity is considered to be creativity since I’m learning new things and developing new understandings.

With this project I achieved some learning outcomes. I understood that game developing is not as easy as it seems but when you finally finish your work it is very rewardable, because you can ask other person to play it and give their opinion. It was a new experience for me, because I had never used a special program to make games. I worked with a partner which was crucial for this project, because we created and developed the game together.

I’m grateful that I participated on this project, I was able to create a game for the first time in my life, however I can’t run the game in my computer because the program I used to made it is not compatible with the software installed in the computer.

Swimming - Intermediate report

In September 2016 started a new CAS activity which consists on swimming at Ginásio Clube Português twice a weak. I will have lessons of one our each with a swimming teacher.

It will be a new experience for me, because although I already know how to swim I’ve never swim in a 25 meters long pool.

My objectives with this activity are improve my swimming skills and my physical health and learn the only swimming style that I still don’ know which is the butterfly stroke.

I will spend approximately 60 hours of action in this activity.

The learning outcomes for this activity are:
1-     Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
2-     Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

For this activity it is required swimming trunks, slippers, swimming goggles and swimming cap.

I think during the lessons I will swallow water sometimes, also I will have some trouble on controlling my respiration when swimming the freestyle stroke.

Soon I will publish more intermediate reports, stay tuned!!
