Two years ago, my group started this project by identifying the trees and plants of the school's garden, by putting a plate of wood in each one with the scientific classification, the common name and the origin. As expected, some plates disappeared and others were deteriorated by the rain. Last year during the first weeks of July we replace some of them with new ones. This activity started on the preliminary year (PY) and we committed to make the maintenance of the plates that identify the plants of the school garden.
Our aims were identifying all school plants and trees by placing a small plate with information from them and also give students information about the name of the school plants and trees, thus promoting the teaching of biology and botany.
What motivated me on participating in this project was the fact that I would be able to contribute to the increase of knowledge and interest of the school students about a subject which is one of my favourites.
My personal goals with this activity were to initiate and plan a CAS activity and also to demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively. I was able to achieve both goals.
I had some difficulties throughout the activity, such as, when making the small plates, because some of the staples didn’t pierced the plates and when plasticizing the paper with the information.
This activity is considered creativity, because it involves making the plates and place them and to make some research for information about the plants. In total I spent 10 hours on this activity.
Concluding I think this project increased my knowledge about biology, and I increased also my communication and skills when working with others.
